How it all started…..
My parents first realised that my brothers, sisters and
I were allergic to dairy and egg products when I was about five years
old. Fortunately for us our grandma was a professional baker and started
to experiment with cake recipes which she could make for us so that we
could take cakes to school for lunch and enjoy at the weekends. Over the
years my grandma developed a whole range of recipes for cakes, biscuits,
slices breads and puddings many of which we still enjoy as a family
today.
The cakes she made were so delicious and far tastier
then my memories of bought cakes from the supermarket, it was then I
became interested in baking. She taught both my sisters and I how to
bake and ever since she passed away, I have carried on the tradition of
baking cakes for the family and creating new recipes for us all to
enjoy.
My family and the long list of food allergies…..
Some members of my family are not only allergic to eggs
and dairy products, but to soya, citrus fruits, grapes, apples and dates
as well. We have all grown up in what seems a constant battle to
correctly identify what seems to be ever new reactions and what has
caused them.
It is amazing when you start looking at ingredients to
discover just how many foods have one or more of the above, therefore
through experimentation I have discovered substitutes for nearly all of
these so I can make cakes and puddings the whole family can enjoy.
